1960-1965: primary school at Volksschule Elbersroth

1965-1974: Episcopal Study Seminary in Eichstätt, grammar school at Willibald-Gymnasium

1974: school-leaving examination (Abitur), joined the Seminary of Eichstätt

1976/77: study abroad in London

1980: Diploma graduation in Catholic Theology from the Catholic University of  Eichstätt

1980/81: Religious Education teacher at the vocational school in Roth

1981: joined the Plankstetten Benedictine Abbey

1982: profession, religious name: Gregor Maria

1982-1985: English Studies in Eichstätt and Oxford

10.09.1983: ordination to the priesthood in Plankstetten by bishop Dr. Alois Brems

1983-85: study abroad in Oxford

1985: return to Plankstetten Abbey: guest master, establishment and management of the educational facility Bildungshaus St. Gregor (until 1990); afterwards advanced studies, amongst others in Rome at the Pontifical Oriental Institute 1990/91

13.07.1993: elected as the 54th abbot of the Plankstetten Benedictine Abbey

02.10.1993: ordination as abbot by bishop Dr. Karl Braun

2002: doctorate at the Sankt Georgen Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology, Frankfurt

14.10.2006: appointment as the 82nd bishop of Eichstätt by Pope Benedict XVI

02.12.2006: episcopal ordination in the cathedral of Eichstätt by archbishop Dr. Ludwig Schick
